On this week’s episode of The 411 Live, Beverly Taylor talks to Jeremy Cherson, Senior Advisor of an organization called The Bail Project. The Bail Project combats mass incarceration by disrupting the money bail system one person at a time. They restore the presumption of innocence, reunite families, and challenge a system that criminalizes race and poverty. They do this by investigating and surveying individuals who are serving a harsher crime sentencing deserving of anything they’ve actually done, they did not have the resources to go to court, they’ve been framed, or even if they just need support. Then, depending on their needs, they help bail them out of jail, and if they desire, continue to support their needs even after their release. Jeremy calls this model the Community Release and Support.
Listen to more on this dismaying topic of a system of injustice and how like Jeremy believes, we ought to make it more known, discussed, and supported.
Only on The 411 Live.
