In this episode of The 411 Live, we’re joined by Carmen Pitre, President & CEO of Sojourner Family Peace Center, to talk about housing and sex trafficking survivors.

Domestic Violence and Sex Trafficking are two horrible situations to be in and unfortunately, there are too many victims. When you think about the two topics, nine times out of ten, you would consider them as separate things that don’t co-mingle. Sadly that’s not true and it’s happening a lot more under our noses than people realize. Understanding the intersections of human trafficking, domestic and sexual violence, and homelessness is a critical part of providing accessible, trauma-informed services.  Survivors of human trafficking face complex barriers to safety, particularly those who are most marginalized and have the least access to resources.

Milwaukee is in need of more housing for trafficked and domestic violence survivors. Carmen Pitre says, “We should start looking at properties that are boarded up or need transformation and look at moving in people who are already doing community work and give them free housing and let them stabilize the blocks and invest more in those neighborhoods.”

Thankfully there are places like the Sojourner Family Peace Center to help victims get back on their feet and want to partner with organizations and people to put together a plan so that we end the housing crisis and stabilize communities that are in dire need of help. Join us as we talk to Carmen Pitre about housing and sex trafficking survivors. This is The 411 Live. Real People. Real Talk.
