In this episode of the 411 Live, Beverly Taylor talks to Cyrena Martin, Community Wellness Advocate at Mahogany Cares and Sexual Assault Domestic Violence Advocate with Aurora Sinai.
In this episode, we focus on a part of sex trafficking that we’ve only scratched the surface on so far, the right terms to use when it comes to those who’ve sadly been through the experience of sex trafficking. As you will hear from Cyrena, we still don’t know to this day whether to refer to those who’d been through such a horrific experience as a “victim” or a “survivor”. Given some prefer one over the other and vice versa, it’s best to be cautious with how we approach each situation. But as we all know, we should always be aware and intentional about how we approach and care for those who’s been through the experience.
As we continue into the podcast, Cyrena helps us understand the type of crisis sex trafficking victims go through. Everything from how they’re introduced into the world, how they may get caught up in the law, and when they are trying to find help. Listen and watch closely as Serena guides us through signs we can look for to help those in need. Join Beverly Taylor and guest as we continue to explore the world of sex trafficking and how you can make a difference. This is the 411 Live.
Mahogany Cares
Mahogany CARES is dedicated to bringing awareness to issues that are plaguing our community and supporting those that are affected. Mahogany CARES was founded in 2010 by Cyrena Mahogany Martin and was created to bring awareness to issues affecting women, families, and the community. Breast cancer and domestic violence affected the lives of many of those closest to Cyrena and she saw fit to create an organization that could touch the lives of many while providing them support and resources as they determine their path in life.
