SYNOPSIS
Voting rights are under attack as states pass voter suppression laws. These attacks have led to substantial burdens for eligible voters and led us to inspire Wisconsin voters and government officials to stand up and protect their fundamental and constitutional right to vote. In the Suppressed by Design project, we explore, educate, and explain voter suppression.

WHAT
Suppressed By Design or Voter Protection was a live virtual forum that featured community leaders, subject matter experts and Wisconsin lawmakers. It was moderated by Beverly Taylor and include questions submitted by the public. The goal of this virtual forum was to bring together community leaders and Wisconsin lawmakers to talk about key topics that included Redistricting, Voter Suppression Laws, Voter Protection Laws, Barriers to Voting, and Security of Absentee Ballots then answer questions submitted by the community.
WHy
The time for a productive discussion between lawmakers and citizens most impacted by voting laws. By connecting the Wisconsin voting community and Wisconsin lawmakers, we hope this forum will create positive, lasting change in the state and promote a healthy democracy.
about the moderator
Beverly Taylor is a prober, listener and talker. She utilized all those skills as an anchor and reporter at WITI-TV (Fox 6 News). During her 21 years there, Beverly became a very recognized face in southeast Wisconsin. She has received many honors for her reporting, including five EMMY nominations. The most rewarding aspect of the job for her was telling stories that make a positive difference in people’s lives and stories that bring awareness. That has not changed as her career-shift includes audiobook narrator, podcaster, voiceover talent, moderator, interviewer and mediator. The University of Tennessee graduate also has a Master’s Degree in Dispute Resolution from Marquette University.
PODCAST
The 4-part podcast explores the impact of Gerrymandering – the manipulation of an electoral constituency’s boundaries so as to favor one party or class – in Wisconsin. Here we talk with Chris Walton, Former Chairman of the Democratic Party of Milwaukee County; David Daley, National Best Selling Author of Rat F**ked and Unrigged; Timothy Schindler, Executive Director& Jamie Lynn Crofts, Policy Director of WI Voices; and Doug Poland, Litigation Director of Forward Law.
